CAS: CIRCUIT BREAKERS

Center Academy for Success (CAS), is a public school in Kansas City, Missouri that is a part of Center School District 58. It serves 135 students in 6 - 12 who need an alternative environment to continue their education.

  • Circuit Breakers

    Throughout the school season, students participating in our robotics program, CenterStage, take on a new game challenge. They engineer a robot to complete various tasks, earning points in the process. Using a coding Block language, students develop programming skills, with future plans to advance to JAVA script. The journey is documented in an engineering notebook, and the season culminates in 2-3 events and a league tournament from November to February.

    • Students attended three qualifiers: Heritage Christian School Qualifier, East Trails (Lee's Summit) Qualifier, and Blue Valley High School Qualifier. Each qualifier involves four events where students compete in mini-games, collaborating with 11 other teams in pairs as alliance partners.

    • Students have been actively competing since 2017.

    • Visited and collaborated with Claude Hawkins and WeCode’s Robotics team on multiple occasions.

Support the Work

  • VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:

    • Programming (Block/JAVA)

    • Designing the build

    • 3D Printing and documenting using CAD programming (Fusion 360)

  • Our robotics program, initiated for students in the district's alternative education program (Grades 7-12), has expanded significantly through the district's education foundation and grant funding. This growth has leveled the opportunities for our students, allowing them to interact with peers from various Kansas City metro schools, enhancing communication skills and fostering self-advocacy. The program aims to provide a positive educational experience for students who may not have had such experiences in the past. - Jarusha Geringer

  • Thank you to our Center Education Foundation, KC STEM Alliance, Bayer Foundation and Be Great Together for providing financial support that allows our program to sustain and continue each season. Thank you to the Cobalt Colts Robotics program in Overland Park, KS and Stealth Panthers Robotics program in Knob Noster, MO who has provided ongoing mentoring guidance in building and encouraging our team members through our robotic seasons.
