Ryan Rumpf, Principal of Global Academy, shares a practical approach that has helped him manage his responsibilities more effectively. "I started using the calendar. That really made it just that one little thing that everybody's been telling me to use for years really helped," he says. By scheduling priorities such as classroom visits and setting a strict time to go home, Rumpf ensures he allocates time for both work and family. 

Setting boundaries is crucial for maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Teachers should establish clear limits on their working hours and avoid taking work home whenever possible. "I make sure I go home at four, whether I'm done with work or not," Rumpf emphasizes. This practice helps create a separation between professional and personal life, allowing educators to recharge and be more present in their personal lives. 

Support from colleagues and administration plays a pivotal role in achieving work-life balance. Collaborative and supportive work environments can help distribute the workload more evenly and provide a platform for teachers to share experiences and seek advice. "Having a good team and a good culture in your school, that's more powerful," Rumpf notes. Schools should foster a culture of teamwork and mutual support, where educators feel valued and understood. 

Self-advocacy is another essential aspect. Teachers should feel empowered to communicate their needs and limitations to their administrators and colleagues. "Don't be afraid to advocate for yourself and let some things go," advises Rumpf. By advocating for themselves, educators can negotiate workloads, request additional support, and ensure their well-being is prioritized. 

Professional development and training on stress management and self-care can equip teachers with tools and techniques to handle the demands of their profession effectively. Schools should provide access to workshops and resources focusing on mental health, stress reduction, and time management. These initiatives can help teachers develop resilience and maintain a healthy work-life balance.
