Global Academy’s New Library Testimonials
BeGreat Together awarded $10,000 to a school-nominated program, Kansas City Public Schools’ Global Academy, for the development of their new multilingual library. With this award, Global Academy purchased over 700 books to support students’ literacy and reading development efforts.
We visited Global Academy again to hear from a parent and student about how the library has been impacting their learning and growth.
“Two of my kids go here and they are really happy about the new books. They are learning new things every day. Their reading is getting good and every day they are making new projects with other students,” said Waheedullah Hamdard, a bilingual support staff member at Global Academy. “The kids are helping their parents read, too. From far away, they do not think there will be books available in their own language, so the Afghan children and the whole community are pleased to have books written in Pashto that they can check out together. If you learn something in your native language, you won’t forget it, and you will implement that project in your life.”
Next, we heard from Odiah, a Swahili-speaking student.
“I like this school, Global Academy, and thank you for bringing these books here,” she said. “I want to keep my language, as well as learn English, because that is really important.”
Join us and donate $25 today to support a day of school programming so we can help current and future leaders, just like Waheedullah and Odiah.
